travel guide: amsterdam

Amsterdam is hands down one of my favourites cities in Europe (up there with Paris). Besides the fact that Negin Mirsalehi lives there, it is filled with unique buildings, long canals, busy markets, good shopping and a lot of culture. It's the capital of Netherlands or as the locals say Holland and has so much to see and do. Everyone is so kind, welcoming, relaxed and down to earth - plus the Dutch are so conscious about treating the environment right (hence all the bikes).

I went to Amsterdam last year which paired great with Paris. I seriously didn't want to leave. There's just a really good energy in Amsterdam. And it's not from all the weed guys haha. We spent our days exploring the streets lined with canals, visiting museums, good restaurants, good bars and taking in as much as we possibly could. I got my first tattoo there. we danced our hearts out at ADE one of the biggest edm festivals, made some new friends and tried lots of new things. I love this city because it holds such a great contrast. You can go out and dance til 5am because they have the best nightlife or you can spend your day at a cute cafe or reading lying on the grass at Vondelpark.

Here is my breakdown:

1. Bulls and Dogs for the coolest milkshakes you will ever have
2. Pllek a sick restaurant/bar inside a redone warehouse
3. Cafe restaurant Stork
4. Choux
5. Will Graanstra Friteshuis for the best fries
6. Breda a creative and modern restaurant
7. Guts and Glory
8. Glou Glou a cool wine bar
9. Madam, on the 20th floor of the A’DAM Tower, is a bustling hangout with unique panoramic views of the Dutch capital. It’s a relaxed restaurant during the day (with a compact menu), and a trendy restaurant and bar with djs at night
10. Vesper bar, this slick cocktail den takes its name from James Bond's drink of choice, the Vesper Martini.

1. Van Gogh museum
2. Rijksmuseum
3. Anne Frank house (book way ahead if time though)
4. Heineken experience (you can literally drink all day)
5. Dam Square
6. Vondelpark to lounge around
7. Jordaan for hip eats and Noordermarkt shopping
8. Royal Palace Amsterdam
9. Stedelijk Museum for contemporary art and design
10. Rembrandt house which is a Dutch master's 17th-century home studio
11. Bloemenmarkt a floating flower market
12. Albert Cuyp market
13. Singel which is a canel
14. De Pijp a multicultural food marketplace
15. Hortus  Botanicus botanical garden and cafe
16. A'dam lookout
17. Museumplein
18. Red light district
19. Some green cafes if you know what I mean Basjoe Coffee Shop
20. Green House centrum
21. Greenhouse Effect Coffeeshop
22. 420 Cafe

Make sure to go on a bike ride, get a panoramic view of the city at A'dam lookout, try out some of the good stuff cause it's legal there and just enjoy every single thing Amsterdam has to offer.
(Enjoy your trip Jen and Ethan)
